The old adage says that an organization is nothing without its people. Carolina For The Kids, made up of 14 committees, is living proof of this truth.
From Sept. 6 to Sept. 9, Carolina FTK worked to recruit students for each of the 14 committees during what is know as Committee Recruitment Week.
Carolina FTK committees range from “Community Outreach” to “Morale and Recruitment” to “Hospital and Family Relations.” Each of these 14 committees play an integral part in how the organization functions and succeeds.
Elizabeth Looney, a first-year student, started off her Carolina FTK journey by joining Fundraising Projects. “Before I came to UNC, I had heard a little bit about UNC Dance Marathon, so when I saw CFTK in the pit during Committee Recruitment Week, I went straight to the tables to get more information about the organization in general, and more specifically about each committee,” said Looney. “CFTK seemed like such a fun organization working for a great cause, so I knew that I definitely wanted to be involved as much as I could.”
Other students, like Hannah Petersen, a senior, can’t get enough of Carolina FTK.Beginning her second year on the Operations committee, Hannah said, “It is both empowering and humbling to watch something that you work towards for an entire year culminate in an event that is able to provide so much support to families.”
“We shared smiles, laughs, unnatural amounts of coffee and even tears. It's amazing how many memories can be made in 24 hours. I wouldn't trade those for the world, so I joined a committee again.”
Along with Looney and Petersen, 368 other students joined a CFTK committee, excited to make a difference For the Kids. This outstanding interest is just the beginning of a great year for Carolina FTK!
