At 6:45 a.m., participants of the UNC Dance Marathon left Fetzer Gym to walk around Polk Place at sunrise. Both the sun and the morale team worked to energize the dancers, who had reached hour 12 of the Marathon.
Olivia Wilkins, a sophomore dancer and first-time marathon participant, described the sunrise walk.
Q: How did you feel leaving Fetzer Gym?
A: I was very tired, but I was excited to leave the confines of the gym. Getting outside and getting fresh air really helped to boost my morale. A change of scenery was definitely necessary.
Q: What stood out to you most during the walk?
A: The morale team stood out the most to me. They were still so incredibly energetic, even after 12 hours of standing. They were dancing to music and pushing me along, and I don’t think I would make it through the Marathon without them.
