Marissa Devine is a member of the Publicity committee.
“I could not imagine my Carolina experience without Carolina For The Kids,” says Miranda Veal, a 2nd year member on the Morale & Recruitment Committee and the current Dancer Communications Subchair.
For Miranda, joining Carolina For The Kids has been life-changing. The decision that led her to join Carolina For The Kids, however, was pretty last minute.
“I always knew what UNC Dance Marathon was, but prior to FallFest, I did not know the organization behind Dance Marathon,” Miranda says.
Miranda submitted her application for Carolina For The Kids the night before it was due, and within a few days, she was a part of the Morale Committee, and on her way to leave a lasting impact on the patients and families of UNC Childrens.
On debating between joining as a dancer alone, or actively taking part in a Carolina For The Kids committee, Miranda says her desire to go above and beyond and have an even larger impact was what ultimately drove her to apply for a committee.
Through being a member of the Morale & Recruitment Committee, Miranda say that she has achieved a number of things. For one, she says she has learned the ins and outs of Carolina For The Kids, and has spread the work about Carolina For The Kids and its cause to more people than she can count.
Secondly, she says she has developed an unique bond with new friends who were not only on her committee, but on many other committees, and with whom she shares this passion for Carolina For The Kids. Additionally, she says that she has been able to make a real impact at UNC Children’s.
“It is such a rewarding feeling knowing that I am making a difference in so many lives,” Miranda says.
There are a diversity of experiences across all Carolina For The Kids committees. In Miranda’s case, she describes the Morale & Recruitment Committee as “crazy individuals, crazy about this awesome cause.”
One of the Morale & Recruitment Committee’s responsibilities is to keep the energy and morale up at the marathon. For Miranda, her favorite memory from Carolina For The Kids was working on morale for the 2017 UNC Dance Marathon.
During a difficult hour of the marathon last year, she describes how the Morale & Recruitment Committee huddled together, and gave each other a pep talk about what they have to do to keep everyone pumped up and excited. Miranda says it was at this moment that she knew that this spirit and determination was why she choose to be a member of the Morale & Recruitment Committee.
Through her time as a committee member, Miranda says that Carolina For The Kids has become her family. Carolina For The Kids has made her UNC experience like no other, she says, and she is excited to see how big of an impact it will have in the coming years.
