Every Tuesday night, the Carolina For The Kids Foundation hosts Parent’s Night Out. The program, commonly referred to as PNO, serves hot, healthy meals to the inpatient families of North Carolina Children’s Hospital.
Members of Carolina FTK sign up each week to participate, serving dinners to the 5th, 6th, and 7th floors of the hospital. Additionally, members deliver boxed meals to families unable to leave their children’s rooms.
The meals are always free, prepared by N.C. Hospitals Dining Services and sponsored by Coastal Federal Credit Union. Hunter Cornelius, Hospital & Family Relations Chair, explains “PNO gives parents one less thing to worry about, as well as letting them spend more time with their child.”
Second only to the For the Kids fun, PNO is CFTK’s most longstanding grant. Last year alone, CFTK served 18,720 meals through Parent’s Night Out.
The program is a favorite among many CFTK members who have participated, as it’s a great way for committee members to have direct involvement with the patients and families of the hospital.
“Personally I love attending PNO because of smiles on the families faces. It’s abundantly clear from their smiles that what we are doing makes a huge difference and makes all the time I commit worth it,” Hunter says.
