Reasons to Run Kilometers For The Kids
Our Kilometers For The Kids 5K, 10K, and 1 mile Fun Run race is just around the corner - mark your calendars for Sept. 27!
Maybe you’re still on the fence about participating, maybe you just told your friend you’d think about it so they wouldn’t ask you again, or maybe you haven’t thought about it at all. No matter where you’re at, here’s 5 reasons why you should register today.
1. It’s fun for the whole family
We’re partnering with the Office of New Student and Carolina Parent Programs this year to host the event during Family Weekend! Activities will be available for people of all ages.
Different stations with fun activities for children will be available during our one-mile fun run. Families can compete with each other to see who runs the fastest, or just go by Starbucks and walk the 5K with a pumpkin spice latte in hand.
All can participate no matter your skill level, so be sure to bring grandma, your dog, your child in a stroller, and all of your friends.
2. Help celebrate the anniversary of the clinic announcement
At last year’s Kilometers For The Kids, we announced our biggest project yet: building a $2.5 million pediatric primary care facility for off-site use by the UNC Children’s.
One year later, with your support, UNC Children’s has moved their pediatric clinic into a new, interim location on Franklin Street (you can learn more about it here).
All funds raised at this event will help support our main focus for this year of building the clinic to better serve the patients and families of UNC Children’s, and there’s no better time to support this facility than at the event where it was first announced!
3. You can raise funds for your organization
Here at CFTK we love to give back, so we’ve decided it’s a great idea to help support organizations that register to participate in this race.
Any organization that registers more than 35 members to race will receive 10 percent of their fees back in the form of a donation. By registering with a group, you not only donate to our cause but also to the cause of your organization.
For more information about how to participate as a group, contact Matt Hodgin at [email protected].
4. Compete with other runners around the area
Although it’s true this is a family-friendly event, that doesn’t mean it can’t still be a little bit competitive.
Both our 5K and 10K races will be timed by officials, and they’ll be awarding top finishers for each race, so feel free to come and try to reign victorious as a Kilometers For The Kids Champion.
5. You get a cool t-shirt
If our first four reasons weren’t enough to get you to sign up, let’s go for the classic college reason to do anything - your registration fee includes a shirt!
This shirt will say that you ran a race, convincing your friends, classmates, and strangers at the grocery store that you are, in fact, an athletic person who runs. So what if this is the only race you will ever run in your life? You are sporty and your shirt says so.
Just be sure to register by September 10th to guarantee that you get the correct size shirt to convince your friends. Learn more about how to register at carolinaftk.org/race.
