Pause For The Cause #5: Meet KCC Asheton

3/25/2017

Melody Goforth is a member of the Publicity Committee

Benefitting the patients and families at UNC Children’s is the reason why we stand at the UNC Dance Marathon. While dancers experience 24 hours of fun activities and performances during the event, they are also able to witness the difference that they are making by standing. Our Kid Co-Captains (KCCs) are awesome, and we love getting to hang out with them and hear their stories during the Marathon! Each KCC’s story impacts us in different ways, and Asheton’s story is no exception.

Asheton Ayotte was born prematurely, weighing less than two pounds. She spent 15 weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care at UNC Children’s Hospital, where she was hooked up to monitors, IVs and ventilators. She was also born with a hole in her heart, developed retinopathy which required eye surgery, and had chronic lung disease. Thanks to UNC Children’s, Asheton is happy and healthy—and her parents say that they have a miracle story to share with others!

Asheton is a long-time KCC at the UNC Dance Marathon, with this year’s event being her eighth time participating as a KCC.
