Senior Hour, from 3:30 to 4:30 a.m., celebrated those dancers who will soon be graduating in May.
We got a chance to speak with senior and three-year dancer Emily Beaty about her experiences with Carolina FTK.
How did you first get involved in Dance Marathon?
My friend Hannah asked me to do it with her, and so I’ve done it with her for the past three years.
What keeps you coming back each year?
Hannah is definitely some of my motivation, but I’m also in nursing school so I get to see
Carolina FTK’s efforts in the hospital. I think it’s really cool, and I know that it is very
important.
What is your favorite memory of the Marathon?
My favorite memory is always the rave because that really gets you through it. And then at the
end when we are swaying, and the families come and talk. It’s just so moving, and it always
keeps me coming back.
What advice do you have to first-year dancers?
My best advice is to just keep pushing through it and get out there and dance another song,
because if you start thinking about how bad your feet hurt you’re not going to make it. But if
you go dance another song, you’ll be able to do it For the Kids.
