The 2018 UNC Dance Marathon is getting closer and closer every day! To ensure that you raise the funds you need to meet your goal, here’s a few tips for soliciting donations.
Not sure how to ask in person? Social media is here to help!
Not sure how to ask in person? Social media is here to help!
There are lots of ways to ask for a donation - Phone calls, emails, texts, social media posts, and even handwritten letters can be very effective in asking for a donation. They can still have a personal touch, too. Include personal anecdotes in your message and thoroughly explain the cause. Even goofy Venmo requests can gain small donations! Whether your roomie owes you for Insomnia, or it’s time for some “friendship dues,” there are lots of ways to raise.
What’s my line again?
While asking for donations in person may seem scary, it’s a lot easier if you’re prepared! Have a script ready so that you know what you’re going to say ahead of time. Not a writer? No worries. Try one of these prompts to get you started. (They can also be used for social media!):
“Hey, [name]! I want to talk to you about Carolina For The Kids for a second. Would you be willing to donate to our cause? With your help, we can support the families and patients of UNC Children’s through free hot meals, gas cards, and by paying for extra medical costs not covered by insurance. CFTK needs people like you to help achieve our goals, and I’d greatly appreciate your help raising for my dancer total for our 2018 Dance Marathon!"
“Hi [name], how are you? Listen, I’ve got something important to ask you. As you know, I’ve been proud [supporter/member] of Carolina For The Kids for almost [amount of time] now, and it’s something that is very near and dear to my heart. CFTK provides hot meals, gas cards, and covers medical costs for the families and patients at UNC Children’s. Our goal is to be able to serve as many of those families and children that need support at the hospital as possible. We are currently raising money to make that goal a reality, and with the money I raise, I’ll be dedication 24 hours to our 2018 Dance Marathon. Would you be willing to contribute to help us reach that goal? Any amount helps!”
Spread the word!
Reach out to as many people as possible… don’t be shy! Fundraising gets easier as you raise and learn what works best for you, and how best you want to communicate the CFTK cause. Ask your friends, family members, coworkers, neighbors, roommates, family friends, classmates, middle and high school friends, parents’ coworkers, etc.! Having your family help you spread the word by sharing your dancer page and posts on social media is a great way to network both the cause and your dancer page. The more, the merrier!
The marathon is coming up soon, and we can’t wait to see you all there! Remember that you can find your dancer page at uncdm.convio.net.
