If you’ve been on campus or social media this past week, you’ve definitely noticed a strong Carolina For The Kids presence, probably joined with shouts of “sign up to be a dancer” in the Pit, wacky costumes and heartfelt social media posts.
During Dancer Recruitment Week, Oct. 3 to Oct. 7, Carolina FTK committee members worked to recruit students for the 2017 UNC Dance Marathon.
Students who signed up as dancers pledged to raise $150 and stand for 24-hours at the Marathon on March 24 and 25.
“I’m really excited to be a first-time dancer because this is something I hear that everyone at Carolina should do before they graduate,” said Lataysha James, senior. “I think this is such a wonderful cause and it will definitely be worth sacrificing some sleep and comfort.”
You couldn’t miss the Morale and Recruitment Committee, who led DRW, with their hourly choreographed dance in the Pit and funky costumes which included tutu’s, butterfly wings, an alligator suit, a cow costume and wild socks.
The outfits and dancing worked like a charm to attract the attention of thousands of students on campus, allowing them to pitch the Carolina FTK mission and encourage students to sign up to dance.
Morale was assisted in their recruitment efforts by members from all of the Carolina FTK committees, extending to supplying Carolina FTK water bottles to intramural athletes, pitching to students studying in Davis Library and “dorm storming” on south campus.
Victoria Hamby, a senior, is a first-time member of Morale. “DRW is such an exciting week for everyone on Morale,” said Hamby. “We’ve been preparing for weeks and it is so encouraging to see interested students commit to dance.”
For Carolina FTK, each dancer that signs up is a critical part of the organization’s advocacy efforts and overall success. “Dancers really help us to share our mission and are such a central part of what we do,” said Hamby.
