The UNC Dance Marathon is a 24-hour event - a fact that can sometimes scares students who are participating in the marathon for the first time ever. Luckily, there is a select group of amazing individuals that is going to pull them through the early morning hours (Before they snatch their next cups of coffee and switch their shoes for the third time!). They are our 6-hour motivators!
This spunky, excited group can be spotted throughout the marathon working in 6-hour shifts, often sporting wearing costumes, starting games and just making sure that everyone is having a fun time.
Since our organization’s inception, motivators have held an important, honored position in the marathon. Their 6 hours of dedicated motivation brings new life to the marathon, and helps to keep the spirit and excitement alive over the 24 hours.
Sara Edwards, who applied to be a motivator at the 2017 UNC Dance Marathon, loved the role she was able to play in the event.
“Having someone to cheer you up and take your mind off of how tired you are makes such a difference,” Sara said. “It felt great to help remind people why they were there and how awesome it is when you make it to the end.”
Our motivators take the attention off our tired feet and remind us to have fun, because we are standing for the kids. If being a motivator sounds like a job for you, look for us in The Pit throughout this upcoming Motivator Recruitment Week!
