CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Carolina For The Kids will host the 19th annual UNC Dance Marathon from 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25.
Over 1,500 UNC-Chapel Hill students will stand for the 24-hour event held in Fetzer Gym on UNC’s campus. Carolina FTK is the largest student-run nonprofit in North Carolina, working year-round to benefit the patients and families of UNC Children’s.
“We are so excited to see all of this years hard work come together for our biggest event of the year,” said Executive Director Elizabeth Brown. “The Marathon brings together so many people and I am eager to see the dancers inspired by why they are standing.”
The theme of the 19th annual UNC Dance Marathon is “Together We Stand.” The Marathon will have many similarities to ones in the past, including performances from campus groups, a Kid Co-Captain talent show and Family Hour, where families will share their experiences and stories with Carolina FTK with dancers.
“My favorite part of the Dance Marathon is definitely the Kid Co-Captain talent show,” said Brown. “We get to see the patients and families that Carolina FTK helps every day and for that moment, those kids feel like rock stars and as if they can conquer the world.”
Carolina FTK is comprised of fourteen committees, with responsibilities ranging from community outreach to event donations. The organization holds events and fundraisers throughout the year, leading up to the UNC Dance Marathon, where the fundraising total is revealed.
