2014 SMITH CENTER CHILDREN’S CHALLENGE
Donate $1 to Beat Duke
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – On Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m., while the UNC men’s basketball team takes on N.C. State on the court, UNC Dance Marathon will take on Duke Dance Marathon in the stands for the Smith Center Children’s Challenge. The dance marathons will compete to see who can raise the most money at their respective games.
UNC-DM asks that each person in the stands donate $1 in an effort to raise a higher percentage of money than DDM. If everyone in the Dean Dome donates $1, UNC-DM can raise over $22,000 for the kids in just one afternoon. Contributing to the Smith Center Children’s Challenge allows everyone at the game to be involved with UNC-DM.
Brendan Leonard, UNC-DM Fundraising Projects Chair, is excited to work with another organization with a similar mission. “The patients and families at both N.C. Children’s Hospital and Duke Children’s Hospital will benefit so much from the funds both organizations are able to raise,” said Leonard.
Not only will a $1 donation benefit the patients and families of N.C. Children’s Hospital, but it also means helping to win the competition against Duke. “We’re also really excited that during the game we can possibly beat both N.C. State and Duke at the same time,” said Leonard. “We hope our basketball team will be bringing their A-game because we certainly will!”
